We are currently seeking a skilled Lead Construction Surveyor to join our dynamic team.
Position Overview
The Lead Construction Surveyor will be responsible for performing and managing all aspects of construction surveying, including layout for roads, buildings, utilities, grading, and large-scale site developments. This role is ideal for someone with extensive field experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to independently run a survey crew while coordinating with contractors, engineers, and project managers.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage construction survey crew, ensuring high quality field work and efficient workflows.
Perform layout for earthworks, utilities, building foundations, gridlines, roads, and other construction features.
Interpret construction drawings, civil plans, and site instructions for accurate survey execution.
Establish and maintain site control networks, benchmarks, and reference points.
Conduct topographic surveys, as built surveys, and ongoing monitoring as required.
Coordinate directly with contractors, site supervisors, engineers, and project managers to plan daily tasks and resolve on-site challenges.
Ensure accurate data collection and timely submission of field files to office staff.
Maintain equipment, verify calibration, and enforce safety standards for all crew members.
Train, mentor, and evaluate junior field staff as needed.
Provide input on project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
Qualifications:
5+ years of construction surveying experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior role.
Strong proficiency with surveying equipment (robotic total stations, GNSS, data collectors, scanners).
Experience with Civil 3D, Carlson or similar processing software.
Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and construction specifications.
Strong leadership skills and experience running a crew independently.
Excellent problem solving abilities and confidence working in fast paced construction environments.
Valid driver’s license and availability for travel to various job sites.
CST, CET, or other relevant certifications considered an asset.
